Welcome to my website. My name is Carl Schumaker. I live in northeast Ohio and I’m a motorcyclist. For four decades, motorcycling has been a part of my life. It started with little dirt bikes and continued with larger sport-touring machines. Riding a bike off-road is about as much fun as one can have - period. Riding a great road on a great bike comes in a close second. Riding a bike in the rain is better than driving a car in any conditions. OK – enough said about that.
Riding for some people is about freedom. For me, it’s about control. Matching revs while downshifting as entering a corner, hitting the apex just right, and maximizing acceleration during the exit – all these things put a smile on my face.
My current ride of choice is a 2007 Honda ST1300 ABS, also known as a Pan European in other parts of the world. I bought it new in 2007 and have put between 11-12K miles on it each season. As I write this in 2020, with just under 150000 miles on the odometer, I’ve only had four things need attention – a new rear wheel bearing (actually a flange bearing), a new battery (in 2015), a fuel pump (at around 111K miles) and a water pump rebuild (at around 125K miles). Of course I’m not including things like brake pads and filters. I can’t imagine better reliability from a motorcycle. And the performance is amazing – I can be in the Rockies in two days and have spectacular fun while I’m there. Plus, there aren’t many street-legal cars that can do 0-60mph in less than 3.5 seconds.
